The following is about how my dream of establishing a Wing Tsun martial arts school turned into reality.
After having played with the idea of building up a Leung Ting WingTsun school for some time, I contacted my Sifu Kasper Lund Nielsen, the Danish national-trainer for LeungTing WingTsun, in January 2004. My decision was to start my WT career from the beginning by taking an instructor education with my Sifu. In that way, I started the most intensive WT course I ever took part in. I never regretted the decision to go back to basics and to patiently build up my knowledge, step by step, by practising the way of kung-fu (hard work). One year later, in February 2005, I already had come closer to my dream: we started WT- courses in a fitness-centre in Fredericia. The local people of our little town did not know Leung Ting WingTsun, therefore to spread knowledge about WT and the new school was our primary goal. Furthermore the people should know that we have a motto, saying: “We are against any form of violence”. This is the most important message we want to bring out to the people. We do not accept any type of “bullies” or hooligans in the school. Primarily, Leung Ting WT is a martial art of self-defence. It furthermore renews the balance of your body, strengthens your mind and increases your mental potential. For some students, it can even become a way of living.
In the efforts of making ourselves and our martial art known, we distributed flyers, put up posters, contacted local newspapers and created our own homepage with the aid of EWTO Danmark, the Danish National Leung Ting WingTsun Organisation (Sifu Kasper Lund Nielsen). As economic aid, we could gain sponsors, who support our WT school. Recently, we found a good accommodation for our school. By joint efforts, we renovated the place in the traditional stile and started the new courses. We now have 5 training days with 7 lessons altogether, divided into 5 adult and 2 children classes. Our classical and at the same time modern educational structure consists of form and footwork training, partner exercises in WingTsun and BlitzDefence, WT power-fitness, stretching and relaxation. We train children from the age of 6, and therefore pay great attention to the fact, that WingTsun also should be fun, for example during games or roll plays. In our opinion, cooperation, friendliness and respect among the students of all ages and between the students and the instructors is the starting point not only for the living of kung-fu, but for more happiness and satisfaction in every day life too.
